I find these coastal birds hilarious! Here they are huddled together, as if deep in conversation. Look to the left, over the rock – one pelican is peering over as if to ask “What’s going on over there?”
Brown pelicans (Pelecanus occidentalis) make spectacular dives into the water from up to 65 feet up in the air! Upon impact, air sacs inflate around their internal organs and they deliberately land on their left side to avoid damage to the trachea and esophagus on the right side of their neck.
